If you're into less elevation gain but want to get to this spectacular place this might be your best bet. The overall hiking distance is longer to Elk Cove, but my legs are always less tired when using the Vista Ridge route. I did have a 37lb pack on and was able to make it to the top. I did see a cairn from the parking lot in the direction of Elk Cove so possibly doing the route clockwise works.

DO NOT TAKE THE LOOP.First glance at the map this looks like a pleasant loop. Hood far from any roads, ski areas or cabins and it is this seclusion that gives it its charm. No bridge at the coe branch.
