With drag-and-drop IBM Cloud icons and an intuitive interface, making a IBM Cloud architecture diagram is fast and easy using Visual Paradigm Online.We use cookies to offer you a better experience. 1999年に「Internet of Things」という言葉が生まれて18年。今現在、IT業界においてIoTという言葉は、聞かない日はないというほどの盛り上がりを見せています。「果たしてIoTとは何なのか」、そんなIoTの本質を少し紐解いてみたいと思います。　「Internet of Things」という言葉は、直訳すると"モノのインターネット"ということになります。一般的には、パソコンやスマートフォンに限らず、様々なモノがインターネットにつながることで、我々の生活やビジネスに新たな価値をもたらすことを指します。では、その新たな価値をもたらしてくれる"モノ"とは一体何でしょうか。新たに得られる価値とはどのようなものでしょうか。おそらく皆さんの回答はそれぞれ異なるのではないかと思います。私どもは仕事柄、様々な立場の方と、IoTに関してディスカッションをする機会があるのですが、みなさん共通しておっしゃるのは、IoTの言葉が指す範囲が広く、実態が掴みづらいということです。例えば、一方ではApple Watchのようなコンシューマ向けのウエアラブルデバイスの話をされていたと思えば、もう一方では大規模な建設機器の遠隔管理の話をされていたりと、論点や視点がバラバラであることが多々あります。クラウドコンピューティングが世の中に登場した際、その形態に懐疑的な人たちが声を揃えて指摘していたのは、その必要性でした。今あるデータセンターのハウジングモデルと何が違うのか、VPSと何が違うのか。わざわざクラウドでやる必要があるのか。そのような議論をよく聞いた記憶があります。しかし、今現在、システムインフラの選択肢として、クラウドは必要不可欠なものとなっています。また、それだけではなく、クラウドの特性をうまく利用したイノベイティブなサービスやビジネスが多数生まれています。IoTも同じような文脈で、既存のM2Mと何が違うのか、モバイルサービスと何が違うのか、という議論をよく聞きますが、IoTの本質からずれているように感じます。結局、IoTはあくまでツールや手段であり、そのツールを利用していかにイノベーションを起こすかがIoTシステムの本質であるということです。そのシステムの実現により、どんな価値が生まれるのか、そしてどのように我々の生活が変わるのかは、IoTを利用する人や企業の立場によって異なります。ある人は、ヘルスケアに利用するかもしれません。ある人は、決済に利用するかもしれません。その姿・形は、IoTを利用する人によって大きく変わっていくでしょう。ただ、現実的にみてイノベーションを生む手段の一つとしてIoTがあり、かつイノベーションを生む可能性がきわめて高い手段であるということです。それでは、IoTを利用した場合に、具体的にどんな価値が考えられるのか、もう少しブレイクダウンするとどのようなIoTシステムやサービスが存在するのかをまとめてみたいと思います。先ほど説明したとおり、IoTはあくまでツールなので、可能性は無限大です。今後、IoTの特性を活かした新しいシステムやサービスが多数生まれていくると思いますが、クラウド同様、ITシステムに携わる人は、IoTが全く関係ないとは言い切れないのではないでしょうか。新しいサービスモデルの一つの形であり、システム・アーキテクチャのあり方を変える可能性をもっています。このIoTをうまく利用することがこれからの時代を乗り切るための重要な要素になると思います。サービスモデルとして、システム・アーキテクチャとして、IoTをうまく利用していきましょう。 Watson IoT for automotive is designed to be secure and reliable.Watson IoT for Automotive can be …
